SAMPLE REPORTS

SUMMARY OF MEDICO‐LEGAL EXPERIENCE

I was brought up in a ‘legal family’, my father being a barrister and later circuit judge and recorder of Birmingham before recent retirement. From an early age I was exposed to court proceedings, and became familiar with the processing of civil and criminal cases. I am acquainted with members of the legal profession such as solicitors, advocates and judges and members of the police force and crown prosecution service. The result of this experience is that I am comfortable and confident in the legal/court environment.

I have experience of acting as an expert witness in a wide variety of cases, both civil and criminal. This includes personal injury and medical negligence cases providing written reports and court appearances when necessary for claimants and defendants or as a single joint expert. I have also completed training and courses including: “Single Joint Expert Reporting and Excellence in Report Writing” (Bond Solon) , “Surgery and the Law” (Royal College of Surgeons), “Medical Negligence and Business Skills for Experts” (Bond Solon), “Legal Aspects of Surgical Practice” (Royal College of Surgeons), “Good Clinical Practice for Principal Investigators” (Southwest Deanery). I have a sound knowledge and understanding of legal principles and civil procedures rules, and pride myself on providing an impartial, analytical and logical approach, based on the latest evidence and am able to grasp the essential points of the case and summarise them effectively.
